OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was another day of sunshine and cool temperatures around southern West Virginia. Highs were in the middle 30s in most areas. Lows tonight will be the coldest that we’ll see in the upcoming seven-day forecast, generally in the lower 20s, with some upper teens in the usual colder spots. The only real concern weather-wise tonight will be the chance for refreezing on the untreated roads.
Tomorrow, temperatures begin to warm up ahead of an approaching low. We’ll be in the lower 40s tomorrow and the lower 50s on Valentine’s Day. Most of the day of romance should be good, in fact, as the rain and snow from the storm won’t arrive until late Saturday and early Sunday.

The storm will have some moisture to work with, and some parts of the southern coalfields could pick up more than an inch of rain.

Even though the above-freezing temperatures during the last few afternoons have reduced the snowpack, what’s left will combine with the rain to definitely produce some ponding of water on the roads. What seems less likely at the moment is flooding, but as always, we’ll be tracking this system as it moves towards us and eventually through the area, and we’ll closely watch for any rises in the creeks and streams.
