Ohio man charged in attempted robbery of Summersville bank

SUMMERSVILLE, WV (WOAY) – An attempted bank robbery today at First Community Bank in Summersville ended with a quick arrest, and police say there is no ongoing risk to the public.

Nicholas Coale, from Ohio, has been charged with robbery of a bank via assault or weapon.

His bond was set at $50,000.

A 911 call stated that Coale allegedly passed the teller a note demanding money and suggesting that he was armed.

The criminal complaint says that Coale only asked for a dollar, said he would wait in the lobby to be arrested, and go to jail so that he had a place to stay. He said he was homeless, according to the complaint.

The state police and the Summersville Police Department responded. Two officers arrested Coale while he was still in the bank.

Coale’s preliminary hearing is set for March 21. He is being held in Central Regional Jail.
