OAK HILL, WV (WOAY)- To kick off the jolliest time of year, the city Oak Hill will hold its annual Christmas parade downtown. The parade will start at 6 pm on December 12th. It’s promised to be a night of cheer even after the last float passes.
“After the parade, we will have some time with Santa at the depot near the rail trail, and we’ll have free food for everybody,” said Damita Johnson, Oak Hill City Manager. “We’ll give out presents to kids; Santa will have some presents to give out and it’ll just be a lot of fun.”
The city has selected a theme for this year’s parade, and applications are open now to join in.
“The theme for the Christmas parade is ‘What Christmas means to me,'” said Johnson. “So we are trying to have people sign up to be in the parade. So, church groups and scout groups, businesses, we’d like for anybody that wants to have a float in the parade and put lights on it and just make the town look beautiful.”
They will also have the ‘Sitting Pretty at Christmas’ competition for people to enjoy the night of the parade.
“We just want the people that have benches on the rail trail to decorate them for Christmas and make just like the rail trail look pretty and festive,” explained Johnson.
So, if you want to join the festive spirit, you can call the office or fill out an application online.

Both the parade and the sitting pretty at Christmas events will be judged and have the opportunity to earn awards. If you can’t make it to the parade on the 12th, don’t worry—there will be a Christmas tree lighting in Oak Hill on December 3rd.
