Monroe County Health Officials Confirm Rabies Case in Gap Mills

Gap Mills, WV (WOAY)- The Monroe County Health Department is issuing a public health advisory following a positive case of rabies in Gap Mills. 

According to an official release from the health department on Wednesday, July 2, a sheep in the Mountain View Road area tested positive for rabies.  

Rabies is a serious viral illness that is transmissible to pets, livestock, and humans through bites or contact with saliva. 

The Monroe County Health Department urges the community to protect themselves by avoiding contact with wild animals, especially bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes. 

Additionally, ensure your pets and livestock are vaccinated against rabies and up to dat eon their shots. 

Finally, if you or your pet has been exposed, contact your local healthcare provider or veterinarian immediately.
