Fayette County, WV (WOAY) – Yesterday, WOAY reported on a hole that opened during Tuesday’s heavy rains and swallowed a car at the corner of Keller Avenue and Route 19 in Fayetteville near Maggie’s Pub.
Progress was made on Wednesday evening as the car was successfully removed from the hole.
In our story, the property owner claimed that the hole was a washed-out culvert and that she had a case against the WV Division of Highways regarding water runoff from Keller Avenue that had been impacting her property.
Woay received a reply to our inquiries from the WV DOH.
They said, quote, “Regarding this incident, an active case has been before the legislature’s claims commission since 2022. Parties to this claim are awaiting a decision. That certainly will not keep us from assessing the current damage and determining what can be done. The parties involved may disagree on the cause or who is responsible for the repair, but we can agree on the importance of immediately securing the site to ensure public safety and prevent further property damage.”
