Major Off-Shore Earthquake Causes Tsunami Scare in California

EUREKA, CA: Just 45 miles southwest of the Northern California coast, the movement of tectonic plates caused a major 7.0 magnitude earthquake at 10:44 am PST. Within minutes of the earthquake, Tsunami Warnings were issued across the Northern California and Southern Oregon coasts.

Many people across the Pacific coast had been evacuated inland and to higher ground to get away from the threat thanks to these early warnings. Fortunately, no tsunami was seen after close watch by the U.S. Tsunami Warning System, and the warnings were canceled after around an hour.
