LUCAS Mobile Unit visiting Mercer and Nicholas counties this week

West Virginia (WOAY) – The WVU Cancer Institute’s LUCAS (Lung Cancer Screening Unit)  will visit Mercer and Nicholas counties, offering low-dose computed tomography scans.

The unit will be in Princeton on Tuesday, September 30, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Bluestone Health Center.

The unit will be located at Camden Family Health in Craigsville, at Gauley River Elementary, on Friday, October 3, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

LUCAS lung cancer screenings are billed to private insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare.

However, uninsured patients living in West Virginia who meet screening criteria can also receive screening through grant funding and donations.

Patients must have a physician’s order and prior authorization from their insurance provider to undergo screening.

Appointments must be scheduled 14 days or more in advance to allow sufficient time for insurance pre-authorizations.

In West Virginia, more people die of lung cancer than colorectal, prostate, and breast cancer combined.

LUCAS travels to the 42 counties in the state that lack easy access to lung cancer screening.

To schedule an appointment in Mercer County, call (304) 431-5499.

For a Nicholas County appointment, call (304) 226-5725.
