Longtime coal miner passes away following fatal incident at American Eagle Mine in Kanawha County

Cabin Creek, WV (WOAY) A West Virginia coal miner is dead following an incident at the American Eagle Mine in Kanawha County.

The miner, identified as Travis Price, worked in the coal mining industry for 24 years.

The incident happened around 8:05 p.m. on Thursday at the underground coal mine in Cabin Creek.

The West Virginia Mine Safety and Health Administration is investigating what they have classified as a powered haulage incident.

Powered haulage incidents involve moving or energized motorized equipment, including conveyor systems.

In a statement, Governor Patrick Morrissey expressed his condolences to Price’s family, friends, and fellow miners, asking West Virginians to keep his loved ones and the entire mining community in their prayers.
