Local veteran hosts Ruck 22 March to support veterans

GLEN JEAN, WV (WOAY) – A local veteran holds a march to raise awareness for veteran suicides.

The Ruck 22 march is meant to raise awareness about veteran suicide, with the 22 representing the average number of veterans each day that take their own life. The Ruck 22 was organized by local veteran Brad McDaniel. He says it’s his goal to raise awareness about this serious issue and help stop veteran suicides.

“I loved everybody that I served my country with, and one loss is one too many. And if it means walking 22 miles, carrying 22 pounds to help that, and raise awareness and let them know that there is help out there and we don’t lose anymore, then that is what I’m going to do,” McDaniel said.

Starting at 4 A.M. Saturday morning, participants marched for 22 miles while carrying 22 pounds of goods to be donated to veteran homeless shelters in North Carolina.
