Local retailer talks benefits of CBD and hemp for National Hemp Month

PRINCETON, WV (WOAY) – July is National Hemp Month, which aims to educate people about the benefits of hemp and how it’s classified differently from marijuana.

One organization trying to educate individuals about the benefits of hemp and CBD is Coal Country Cannabis, an online retailer of hemp-based products in the Princeton area.

Laura and Ryan Brooks, co-owners of the store, opened their store in 2018 and have since seen an outpour of support from the community. They say they wish more people understood the benefits of hemp and all it can do to help people with pain, anxiety, depression and many other issues.

“What we want people to realize is that hemp does not get you high. Just because it looks and smells like marijuana, it’s still two totally different plants. The THC levels in hemp are so low, they still give you the benefits of cannabis, but without the buzz,” they said.

Ryan Brooks says he first experienced the benefits of CBD oil while he was fighting cancer, and disliked the methods of pain treatments he was using. Laura Brooks says CBD oil helped her deal with anxiety issues.

As well, the couple claims their 13-year-old dog was suffering from cancer and the pain pills prescribed by a vet weren’t working well. After giving their dog CBD Pet Tincture, they claim he was more relaxed and lived seven months longer than their vet anticipated.

Coal Country Cannabis sells a variety of CBD and THC related products including hemp flour and CBD oil. Their products are available for whole or individual sale and can be purchased online at their website.

The couple says they plan to set up a physical location in Princeton sometime in the near future.
