Local medical clinic offers COVID-19 antibody testing

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Starting today, a local Beckley medical clinic, Primary Care Plus is offering COVID-19 antibody testing. These tests are used to identify whether a person has been exposed to COVID-19 in the past.

“So with the antibody testing allows for you to be tested to determine if you had exposure to the COVID-19 virus. However, just because the antibody testing is conducted and can determine if you had past COVID-19 doesn’t necessarily mean that you could not get the virus,” said Marsh.

Medical clinic Primary Care Plus has started COVID-19 antibody testing to the public. Antibody tests can’t yet say who’s immune to COVID-19, but they can show who’s at risk.

“The benefit of the antibody testing is to see if you came in contact with COVID-19 virus,” said Marsh.

Anyone 8 years and older can take the test. Blood will be drawn from your arm and within 48 hours test results can reveal if a patient has been exposed to the virus.

“The antibody test is a hundred percent accurate. Okay, just because you had exposure to COVID-19 potentially based on your immune response doesn’t necessarily mean you developed antibodies,” said Marsh.

Primary Care Plus is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and no appointments are needed for the antibody testing.
