Just for Kids Child Advocacy Center hosts 9th annual golf classic fundraiser

SHADY SPRING, WV (WOAY) – Just for Kids Child Advocacy Center held its 9th annual golf classic fundraiser at Glade Springs this afternoon.

Over 28 teams faced off in the tournament to help raise money for Just for Kids a nonprofit that helps children who have experienced any form of violence or sexual abuse.

“This is probably our biggest year ever. We have 30 teams playing today at Glade Spring, and it’s our biggest fundraiser for Just For Kids,” Executive Director Scott Miller said. “We have already raised over $50,000 for this year’s tournament. Particularly, in these days of COVID makes a huge difference in the work that we do.”

The annual golf tournament makes up 20% of the organization’s yearly funds.

“We had more teams than we ever had. I think the first year we had 12 teams that came out and I think we have 30 teams this year, so we’re really excited about that,” said Miller.

Just For Kids works with hundreds of children in Raleigh, Fayette, and Wyoming Counties who are experiencing abuse in their lives. President of the Board of Directors, Marcy Nolan says the organization is especially needed during the COVID pandemic when children are stuck at home more.

“During this pandemic, we are in a Petri dish for these children who are at home. They are not out playing, they are not at school where the concealer can identify problems and where teachers can look for the abuse of children,” said Nolan. So this is a very difficult time for us and we hope this pandemic ends soon so that the kids can come out and get help.”
