Fayette County, WV (WOAY) – The Fayette County Health Department is partnering with the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department to dispense medicine aimed at preventing Lyme disease.
The efforts come as tick season ramps up and is expected to be extreme this year. Tick bites are up around the country, including in West Virginia.
The medicine, doxycycline, is for anyone who has had a black-legged tick attached to them for longer than 72 hours.
Clinic teams at both health departments will walk patients through an office visit and dispense medicine. It will cost $25.
Walk-ins are accepted, but appointments ensure a shorter wait time.
