June Smashes Heat Records in Southern West Virginia

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): When you get that electric bill later in July for the month of June, don’t be surprised if it’s much higher than last year at this time.

Even though we are starting out on a refreshing note for the 1st of July, it was hot as a firecracker.

  1. June was the third hottest on record in Beckley
  2. June was the 19th hottest on record in Bluefield
  3. June was the 35th hottest on record in Lewisburg
  4. June 16-22 ranked as the hottest 7-day stretch for the sixth month of the year in Beckley (Avg. high temp was 87 degrees)
  5. The average minimum temperature for the last two days of the month was 68 degrees, which ranks as the warmest two-day average for minimum temperatures in June in Beckley
  6. Two consecutive days at or above 90-degrees about a week ago ranks as the ninth time this has happened in Beckley
  7. Records at the Beckley-Memorial Airport date back to May 15, 1963.
