Jay Polk is the Chief Meteorologist for Stormwatch 4, joining the station in March 2025. Jay has extensive experience in television, previously working at stations in the Midwest, Southeast and Rockies. His last stop in television before coming to Southern West Virginia was West Palm Beach, where he worked as a Freelance Meteorologist at WPTV. Before that, he spent three years in Colorado Springs, Colorado, gaining experience with the highly variable weather of the Front Range and Prairies. Â
Jay has also held positions in the weather departments at stations in Michigan, Wisconsin and Georgia. That experience and knowledge has helped him to earn the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation from the American Meteorological Society. He is also a member of the National Weather Association. Â
He enjoys getting involved in the community and he has extensive volunteer experience for organizations such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity and the Boys and Girls Clubs.Â
Jay is a proud graduate of Florida State University with a degree in Meteorology and when he’s not forecasting the weather for Southern West Virginia, he enjoys spending time with his family and watching his beloved FSU sports teams along with the Bucs, Rays and Lightning. He also enjoys astronomy, reading, tennis, and soccer.Â
