Kanawha County, WV (WOAY) – Secretary of State, Kris Warner, has announced the winner of West Virginia’s first-ever ‘I Voted’ Sticker Contest.
Congratulations to Raleigh County’s eighth-grader, Reese Childers!
Reese was chosen out of over 1,100 other eighth-graders who entered the contest.
Entries came pouring in from 42 counties. Each county winner was placed in a regional contest, where 4 emerged as finalists.
The West Virginia Civics Coalition hosted a forum today titled ‘Civic Learning for a Stronger West Virginia.’ Secretary Warner hosted a press conference at the end of the forum to announce the winner in the chamber of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals at the State Capitol.
Reese Childers, from Shady Spring Middle School in Raleigh County, won out of the 4 finalists.
Reese was given a plaque featuring her artwork. Raleigh County Clerk Scott Van Meter was presented with 11,000 stickers with Reese’s design to hand out to Raleigh County voters who vote in person for the primary election.
Woay had the opportunity to speak with Reese about her design in February. She explained what inspired the artwork.
West Virginia’s Primary election is scheduled for May 12. The last day to register or update your voter registration is April 21.
