Kanawha County, WV (WOAY) – Secretary of State, Kris Warner, has announced the launch of a state-wide contest for all 8th graders.
It is the ‘I voted’ sticker contest, where students will design an ‘I voted’ sticker to be used in their home county during the 2026 election cycle.
8th graders in public, private, or home schools have until January 27 to submit their sticker design. The artwork must include the phrase ‘I voted’ and reflect themes of civic pride and or West Virginia heritage.
Public and private schools will send their designs to their designated teacher, and homeschool students must have a parent or guardian submit their design to their resident county clerk.
Judging will take place in three phases: a county competition, regional semi-finals, and a statewide final competition.
The county level will be judged by the county clerk’s office and a team of people picked by the clerk.
The regional semi-final will be judged by a panel of 4 anonymous people selected by the Secretary of State.
When one design is selected from each region, the statewide winner will be determined by the general public, who will vote on the Secretary of State’s Facebook page.
The four regional winners will be invited by Secretary Warner to visit the state capitol to attend the announcement of the statewide winner.
The winner will see their sticker at polling places in their home county and will also receive a special award for their hard work.
For more information and submission guidelines, you can call the Secretary of State’s office at 304-558-6000.
West Virginia’s primary election is scheduled for May 12.
