CHARLESTON, WV (WOAY) – Gov. Patrick Morrisey says crime rates are down across the Mountain State.
In a press release, Morrisey said violent crime fell by 5.6% statewide, property crime is down by 13.5%, and overdoses are down by 12%.
“Crime has no safe haven in West Virginia, and it’s important that we keep our people safe. We live in one of the most beautiful and one of the safest states in the country. We have to keep it that way,” Morrisey said in a press conference today.
He said his administration has aggressively targeted crime, including sweeps in McDowell and Mercer counties that yielded more than 130 pounds of fentanyl and methamphetamine.
“Nothing matters more to me than you and your family’s safety,” Morrisey said in a press release. “In West Virginia, we’re taking an aggressive approach to protect your loved ones: crime down, enforcement up. We’re fighting the drug crisis on every front, and we’re seeing real results.”
