Hospitals asked to send in plans for elective surgeries

WEST VIRGINIA (WOAY) – On Monday, all hospitals can submit a plan to start having elective surgeries again.

In a COVID-19 task force meeting, Greenbrier County Health Officer Dr. Bridgette Morrison said the system will be based upon priority rating and hospitals will have to submit a request to the state.

“These are people that are higher risk that have a specific rating on priority of surgeries,” Dr. Morrison said. “With that being said, they still have to keep an eye on how much PPE they’re using because again, there’s no definitive answer on when there’s going to be more readily available.”

Morrison says there are still major shortages of PPE across the state.
