Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia Parkways Authority is expecting a lot of people to use the turnpike.
They are expecting over a million vehicle transactions over the holiday season, which began Friday, December 19, and ends Sunday, the 28.
The 10-day season is one of the busiest for traffic in the entire year.
The turnpike estimates that Tuesday, December 23, Friday, December 26, and Sunday, December 28, will be the busiest days, with an expected 123,000 transactions for each day.
The day with the least expected traffic is Christmas Day, with an expected 53,000.
Turnpike officials urge travelers to avoid peak travel times between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to help ease traffic.
State police will be deployed on the turnpike to support traffic flow and ensure safety.
