Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – The Supreme Court issued a major blow against President Donald Trump’s tariffs this morning, and one of West Virginia’s senators says that she trusts the court and its verdict.
The Justices said Trump violated federal law when he imposed sweeping tariffs across the globe by citing emergency economic authority.
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the majority opinion that Trump needs authorization from Congress to exercise those tariffs.
The justices agreed on the decision six-to-three.
Senator Shelley Moore Capito reacted to the decision today at a press event.
She said her main question now is whether or not the United States needs to pay back tariff revenues already collected. She said she trusts the Supreme Court and its decision.
