Hands of Outreach to connect community with resources

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Hands of Outreach will reach Raleigh County residents with the resources they need to better their lives on Monday, October 7 at Word Park in Beckley.

From housing to employment, recovery, mental health and more, connect with support.

“A lot of resources are scarce or far and hard to access for some of the people truly at risk and in need in the community,” said Bright Life Mental Health & Recovery Services SUD counselor Amanda Hammons. “So bringing them to a public place and making sure they’re known in their scene and their information is given out, truly helps spread awareness, break stigma and bring resources to the people.”

According to Sage & Lila Company, it’s important to them to be a community asset. They understand what it’s like to be in need for some of these resources.

“We utilized a lot of these resources ourselves and really just want to love on the community a little bit, let them know exactly what is available to help them get on their feet,” owner/outreach director Samantha Phillips said. “Just be able to spend some time together in fellowship and just let them know that somebody does care.”

The Hands of Outreach event resource organizations are about giving back and making sure our neighbors have their life and stability needs met.

“This makes it loud and available,” Hammons said. “It gives an opportunity for people to really show up and just show the love that they have for the community.”

Whether you need housing, a job, educational and childcare opportunities — or positive, productive activities for your kids — Hands of Outreach will have resources available for just about every need.

“We’ll have some free meals, some clothing, hygiene, food resources, mental health and medical resources, youth prevention and recovery support,” said Phillips.

Hands of Outreach is under the umbrella of the Spread the Warmth campaign, in its fourth year.

“We do this throughout the entire winter months,” Hammons said. “The more people that band together the more times we can do it, the more people we can reach. Come and spread a little warmth with us.”

This new event is organized and sponsored by Bright Life Mental Health & Recovery Services, and Sage & Lila Company.
