OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It has been a cool start to Friday around the region. Temperatures are in the 40s in most areas, with some lower 50s in some spots. Skies are mostly clear this morning and will be mostly sunny this afternoon. There is still plenty of dry air around as well, and with the slightly warmer-than-normal start, highs will top out around 70 degrees, with some areas – mainly in the southern coalfields winding up in the lower 70s.
The Friday night football plans look good at the start of the game, but a jacket will come in handy later on.
Overnight, lows will be in the lower to mid-40s, a shade cooler than this morning, but still above the normal for the last day of October.
The first half of the weekend will be nice overall, but there will be more clouds around compared to what we’re going to see today. The clouds will keep the temperatures in check a bit, with highs in the mid-60s. Halloween evening will be nice and cool, so a jacket will be a nice extra layer for people headed out for trick-or-treating.
The second half of the weekend looks similar to the first. We had originally thought there might be some rain on Sunday, but it looks like the next system will be delayed as high pressure remains in control of the weather.
Early next week, we’ll finally pick up some showers as another low-pressure center approaches from the west.
This storm could be on the strong side, and in areas near and to the south of the center, some of the storms will be strong, but severe weather is not expected. The storm will tap into the Gulf moisture, producing good amounts of rain. It looks like the heaviest rain will be to our south, but a slight jog to the north for the low means some of the heavier rain will be over our area. At the moment, most areas should see 1″ of rain or less.
Given how dry we’ve been, that means flooding should not be a concern this time. Overall, the pattern will be much more active next week, and with the cloud cover and the greater chances for rain, temperatures will be cooler in the afternoon and warmer during the morning hours.
