BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The Great Race has decided to postpone its yearly cross-country race due to COVID-19.
Beckley was planned to be a stop for this year’s race, and many in the community are disappointed to see the race canceled, especially because of the tourism it would have generated.
Lisa Strader with Visit Southern West Virginia says it’s a disappointment, but claims it was a good idea to postpone it.
“Of course we’re disappointed, but we also feel like it’s the best move with everything that’s going on this year. We want it to be a celebration. When they pull into town, we want everybody to come down and look at the cars, meet the drivers,” Strader said.
The race is being rescheduled for June of 2021 and is expected to keep the same route.
