Kanawha County, WV (WOAY) – At a press conference today, Governor Patrick Morrisey said West Virginia’s childcare system is improving.
Governor Morrisey said he is going to ask the legislature for money to renovate and repair state care facilities that serve children, instead of sending children out of state.
Earlier this year, a federal inspector general released the results of an audit into West Virginia’s Bureau of Social Services, finding that at least one requirement was not met in 91% of child abuse and neglect cases.
Governor Morrisey said the state is making progress on fixing the issues, cutting down backlogs, and significantly reducing the number of children in state custody.
He said the state is doing a better job of retaining staff.
