West Virginia (CNN)- Governor Patrick Morrisey has signed the state’s new voter ID bill into law, Â requiring voters to have a valid photo ID to cast a ballot in person.
Opponents of the law say it’s an attempt at voter suppression.
Supporters say that’s not true and the law is necessary to uphold election integrity and prevent voter fraud.
Valid photo IDs include a driver’s license or West Virginia identification card from the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Passports, government ID cards, valid student ID cards, and voter registration cards with pictures are also accepted.
After July, officials will no longer accept identification such as a water bill to show residency or a non-photo voter registration card.
Voters without a valid ID can cast a provisional ballot.
