Governor Morrisey appoints Cochran to serve as Mercer County’s 13th circuit court judge

Mercer County, WV (WOAY) – Governor Patrick Morrisey has appointed Brian Keith Cochran to serve as Mercer County’s 13th circuit court judge.

Cochran fills the vacancy left by retired Judge William J. Sadler.

Cochran has been the prosecuting attorney for Mercer County since 2020, and also brings over 30 years of combined law enforcement and legal experience to the role.

He has also earned his juris doctor from the Appalachian School of Law and has degrees in criminal justice and liberal arts from Fairmont State College, Marshall University, and Glenville State College. Cochran was admitted to the state bar in 2007 and has practiced law in both public and private sectors. He also has multiple awards.

Cochran will run in the May 2026 election to serve the remaining 7 years of Judge Sadler’s term.
