Giving Tuesday encourages communities to donate in state-wide food drive

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – This Tuesday the United Way is holding Giving Tuesday, a state-wide food drive to help people in need.

Between 9 A.M. and 3 P.M. they will be accepting food donations at their office in Beckley.

Executive Director Megan Legursky says the United Way of Southern West Virginia is hopeful to see many people come out and donate any non-perishable goods they have.

“We want to encourage people who have a capacity to do anything. We have the County Roads State-Wide Food Drive. So that people, if they have some food items in their pantry they don’t plan on using, can come and donate them,” Legursky said.

Donations will be distributed to community partners like local food banks to give to people in need. Monetary donations are also encouraged and Legursky claims all funds raised on Giving Tuesday will go to help local communities.
