GasBuddy reports rising prices statewide and beyond this week

West Virginia (WOAY) Gas prices are rising sharply across the mountain state.

According to GasBuddy, the average price for gasoline in West Virginia jumped 55 cents in the past week, now averaging $3.41 per gallon.

That’s nearly 59 cents higher than this time last year.

Across the state, prices range from about $2.79 a gallon at the lowest stations to $3.59, an 80-cent difference.

The national average has also climbed, rising 51 cents in the last week to $3.45 per gallon, while the average price of diesel is now $4.59.

Gasbuddy analysts say the spike follows a surge in oil prices tied to escalating tensions in the Middle East after U.S. strikes on Iran and disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz.

Analysts warn gas prices could rise another 20 to 50 cents per gallon this week as energy markets react to potential supply disruptions.
