West Virginia (WOAY) Gas prices are on the rise across West Virginia, and experts say relief may not be coming anytime soon.

According to GasBuddy, the average price for a gallon of gas in the Mountain State has jumped 8.4 cents in just the past week, now sitting at $3.81.

That’s nearly a dollar higher than this time last month, and about 86 cents more than a year ago.

Drivers are seeing a wide range at the pump.

Prices yesterday ranged from a low of $3.29 to a high of $3.99 per gallon.

Nationally, gas prices are also climbing, up to an average of $3.95 per gallon.

Diesel is seeing an even sharper spike, rising more than 14 cents in the last week to $5.36 per gallon, the highest level since July of 2022.

Analysts say global supply concerns are playing a major role.

GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis says ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz are limiting the flow of crude oil, putting continued pressure on prices.

Locally, prices are also trending upward.

Charleston is up 8 cents this week to $3.86, while Virginia sits at $3.88 per gallon.

Experts warn gas prices could soon top $4.00 a gallon nationwide, with diesel potentially nearing $6.00 if current conditions continue.
