Former WV Supreme Court Justice dies at 88

CHARLESTON, WV (WOAY) – A former WV Supreme Court Justice has died.

Thomas McHugh, who served the state’s high court for over 2 decades passed away this morning at Thomas Memorial Hospital in Charleston.

Justice McHugh was born in Charleston, served in the U.S. Army and graduated from the West Virginia University College of Law.

McHugh served as a Kanawha County Circuit Court judge prior to being elected to the WV Supreme Court in 1980. He would go on to be reelected to the office for a second 12-year term in 1992.

McHugh was 88 years old.
