We are seeing heavy rain in some parts of the area this evening as a front pushes its way through the region. The heaviest rain has been in the Greenbrier Valley and also in the southern coalfields. Rainfall totals have been greater than 2″ in an area near the Greenbrier/Monroe County line.

There are Flash Flood Warnings in parts of both counties. There is also a Flood Advisory in effect until 7:45 p.m. for other portions of Greenbrier County. Pocahontas County has seen heavy rain as well, and parts of that county are under a Flash Flood Warning as well.

Other locations in the WOAY NewsWatch area have seen some rain, but nowhere near as much as the areas mentioned above. Eventually, everyone sees a chance for rain as we go through the rest of the evening.

Tonight, the rain eventually tapers off, and areas where rain falls will see patchy fog. More rain is in the forecast tomorrow and tomorrow night as the front stalls out just south of the area, but chances are not as high as they have been today. Highs tomorrow will be cooler than they were today and will generally be in the upper 70s.

As we end the traditional work week, we see more scattered showers and storms as a more typical late summer pattern takes hold.

Another front comes into the region on Saturday, and this front is the one that cool-weather lovers have been anticipating for several weeks. The front gives us a good chance for showers and storms on both weekend days, especially on Sunday. Once again, heavy rain is possible with any storms that pop up, but other types of severe weather are not expected. Once the next front is gone, temperatures take a nosedive, with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Lows will be in the lower 50s in most areas, with upper 40s in the typically colder spots!
