Scattered Showers Continue; Widespread Rain for Easter

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Another milder start this morning will be followed by a few more scattered showers later this morning and afternoon. An umbrella or rain jacket will be helpful, but there is not much to worry about beyond some lighter rain to end the week. Temperatures will be warmer once again, but the majority of the region will stay in the upper 70s rather than breaking 80 degrees.

This cycle of scattered showers after nice starts will continue on Saturday. Mostly sunny skies will quickly be cloud covered with scattered showers and storms during the afternoon. However, the rain will last this time around. A cold front will approach from the Midwest, bringing widespread rain later in the day. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:

The cold front passing through is the main event of the weekend. Widespread activity starts overnight on Saturday, bringing some strong to severe storms into the region. The stronger storms will likely start in our northern counties before weakening as they move further into the viewing area. Damaging winds are the main concern with this incoming line of storms, though heavy rain and isolated hail is possible. Tornadic activity will not be in play. Make sure to stay weather aware through the day and have multiple ways to receive alerts in case any severe weather does develop near you.

These storms will weaken by Sunday morning, but they will not stop dropping widespread rain until later in the day. The cold front is anticipated to pass through right before or during sunrise on Easter Sunday. Stormy and rainy conditions will continue through the morning, so any outdoor plans should be moved indoors. These showers and storms will finally start to dissipate in the afternoon, but some activity may linger through the evening. Temperatures will be cooler during the holiday as well, so longer sleeves are recommended.

After the showers and storms leave, conditions will calm down tremendously. While temperatures will be on the cooler side for the first half of the week, mostly sunny skies and dry conditions will make them enjoyable. However, brush fire risks may be elevated during the dry streak. Make sure to mind the burn bans in effect while enjoying the nice weather. By Thursday, temperatures will once again be above average for this time of year. Here’s a look at the 7-Day Forecast:
