Whitesville, WV (WOAY)- Local fire and emergency crews extinguished a large fire that broke out at Armstrong Funeral Home on Monday evening.
At 5:39 p.m., crews from the Whitesville Fire Department and Racine Fire responded to a call to Armstrong Funeral Home on Coal River Road following reports of heavy black smoke.
Upon arrival, Firefighters discovered a working structure fire with thick smoke pouring from every opening.
Crews requested additional support from departments across Boone and Raleigh Counties to help with water supply and manpower.
Firefighters made an interior attack, but conditions quickly deteriorated, which forced crews to pull back.
They were able to protect nearby buildings and keep the flames contained to the funeral home.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
Officials say this is a deeply felt loss for the Whitesville community.
