FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY) — Many people were out and about on the day before Christmas getting last-minute gifts and stocking stuffers to ensure they had everyone covered for the festive season.
But they weren’t all at the mall. Others headed to Dove’s Gift Shoppe in Fayetteville to pick up something unique at the local small business.
“We really appreciate everybody’s support, it means so much to us,” said General Manager Kristi Arthur. “I know most businesses do. But here personally, we have a lot of products that we can curate as special gifts like (our) made-in-the-USA candle sleeves, which are really nice. This is a gift that keeps on giving throughout the seasons.”
Whether you’re from West Virginia or just passing through, at Dove’s Gift Shoppe you will see featured items from Mountain State artisans and more.
“It’s not something you’re going to find in every store, like Walmart or Belk,” Arthur said. “These are special products that are either locally made or specially curated to come to these local and small businesses.”
In town for Christmas, this former Fayette County resident was driving by…
“And we’re like, ‘Let’s go in Dove’s; we haven’t been there in a while,” said Kim McGuire. “This store makes you feel comfortable, you have all of the scents from home.”
There is an extensive diversity of products at Dove’s Gift Shoppe, including candles and textiles.
“Florals, flags, Christmas items. We have made-in-the-USA lotions, some food products and local West Virginia-made pottery, West Virginia ornaments, and other items,” Arthur said.
According to the general manager, Dove’s customers hail from near and far — Fayette, Raleigh, Webster, and Nicholas counties, as well as from out-of-state.
“We enjoy it, especially when they come back and talk about how much the person they gave it to enjoyed the gift that they received,” she said.
Walking through Dove’s offers that sense of nostalgia.
“Brings us back mentally to home,” said McGuire. “We like being able to have that home feeling when we come home.”
