FBI and international allies seize dark-web site used by prolific ransomware gang

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY)- The FBI and its international allies have seized a dark web site that has plagued organizations worldwide with ransomware attacks.

The ransomware gang known as “Lockbit” has claimed responsibility for several attacks using the dark web to extort its victims.

A message on the hackers’ website confirmed services had been disrupted due to international law enforcement action.

The group has taken credit for a November hack attack that forced a New Jersey-based healthcare system to cancel some patient appointments.

“Lockbit” said it’s also behind ransomware attacks in Fulton county-Georgia that disrupted critical county services for weeks.

Along with an attack on the industrial and commercial bank of China.
