FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WOAY) – A Fayetteville man is in custody after a brief police chase on Route 19 in Fayette County Saturday evening.
Steven West is facing a felony fleeing charge, along with several misdemeanor traffic offenses including failure to maintain control and reckless driving.
It all started when West allegedly ran a red light and nearly hit a sheriff’s deputy at the intersection of Court Street and Maple Avenue in Fayetteville.
Sheriff Jess McMullen said West then fled through the town onto Route 19, allegedly swerving into oncoming traffic and nearly causing a head on collision in Fayetteville.
Once he got to U.S. 19, he headed north. Deputies took advantage of road construction on the New River Gorge Bridge to stop him.
West was taken into custody without injuries.
