FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WOAY)- Fayetteville Town Park just got a new addition for all to enjoy. There was an official ribbon-cutting for their new bike skills area.
This is a new set of trails in the wooded area just outside the park for people to get out and have some fun. The different courses are about a quarter of a mile long and are designed to make it easy to ride them multiple times.
There are different skill level courses available, so anyone can utilize them, regardless of their age and abilities.
“This park is really crucial because it gives you a chance to try things out for the first time without getting out into the middle of the woods, riding over rocks,” said Andy Davis, the Director of Strategic Redevelopment at the New River Gorge Regional Development Authority. “So it comes back to the name, the bike skills course. And I think it’s really important for youth as well as adults to build those skills, build confidence.”
Senator Shelly Moore Capito was in attendance at the ribbon-cutting as former Senator Joe Manchin helped get congressional funding for this project. Manchin and Capito thought this was a good project to help our communities get outside in a fun way.
“Well, this is family entertainment here. This is getting outside. There are statistics that we’re not getting outside enough, that we’re not spending time with our families except in front of a TV or a screen,” said Sen. Shelley Moore Capito. “This gets you outside life skills, bicycle skills, how to ride, how to obey traffic, all those kinds of things, and then hopefully it catches fire and families want to stay together and recreate together here in West Virginia. I mean, look at it. It’s beautiful.”
