FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WOAY) – A Fayetteville Police Officer went out of his way to rescue a baby skunk.
A citizen at the Fayetteville Town Park flagged down Officer Maynor during his daily patrol to inform him that a baby skunk had gotten trapped in the skate park. After not being able to find any immediate help from animal control, he knew he had to take it upon himself to make sure the skunk got out safely without hurting anybody.
“Not something that you typically encounter, but it was something that needed to be done. I tried contacting the appropriate resources, but unfortunately there was nobody available. So it’s just something that you got to take into your own hands and make sure it gets out okay,” Maynor said.
After carefully catching the baby skunk, Maynor released it back into the wild at the tree line, a good distance from the park.
