FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – A Fayette County man has returned home to his family after spending several weeks in the hospital recovering from COVID-19.
After 18 days in ICU, family members and friends held an emotional hospital homecoming for COVID-19 survivor Lewis Wood that almost didn’t happen.
“It is no joke this stuff will kill you. It has done everything but kill me,” said COVID-19 survivor Lewis Wood.
It is still unclear how the 60-year-old contracted the virus.
“You can ask any of these people here I go out less than any of these people,” said Wood. For the last month, Lewis has been at Beckley Appalachian Regional Healthcare hospital, receiving intensive care.
“Doctor says that I have to have rehab. My immune system is compromised somewhat, and then it will get stronger if I do what I’m supposed to do,” said Wood.
Luis returned home and was surrounded by family and friends. But he still has a long road to recovery.
“Wonderful to have him back. We have not been apart in over 40 years, so it’s great to get him home and in his comfortable chair. I think that’s going to help him heal quicker,” said Lewis’s wife, Joyce Wood.
Lewis Family says they hope this can serve as a warning and that others will take this virus seriously.
