OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – We started off the day with mostly cloudy skies, but as the day went on, some sun broke through, and the lingering showers that were on the radar this morning went away. Temperatures rebounded in some areas, making their way into the lower 50s during the afternoon.

Tonight, we’ll see cool temperatures again, but not too much cooler than they should be to this point in the year.

The break from the rain lasts into the early part of the day tomorrow before returning in full force tomorrow afternoon and evening.

The cause for the showers is a low-pressure center approaching from the west. This low has a lot of moisture to work with, and it will pass just off to our west over the next few days. The Wednesday night/Friday morning timeframe should be a very wet stretch for us, with many locations picking up more than 2″ of rainfall.

It will really help to alleviate the drought that we’ve been stuck in for the past few months, even though it won’t eliminate it entirely.
Temperatures for the rest of the week will be in a similar neighborhood to where they have been for the past couple of days. Highs will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s, and lows will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s. With the chance for showers still hanging around during the early morning hours and temperatures in the 30s, the higher elevation locations will see some of the precipitation fall in wintry form. Notice the little patch of a wintry mix and snow in the northeastern part of the state.

The weekend looks much better in terms of both temperatures and rain chances. From Friday morning/Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon/Sunday evening, we should stay dry, and it will be warmer – at least in the afternoon. With some extra clearing at night, it will be colder during that part of the day, only a couple of degrees above the freezing mark on average. The end of the extended forecast features a return to shower chances.
