Daylight Savings marks as reminder to change smoke alarm batteries

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – This month, people will spring forward and set their clocks one hour ahead. And while doing that, many people take this time of year to also double-check their smoke alarm batteries.

Chris Lanna of the Beckley fire department says this a great time to remind yourself to check your smoke alarms.

“Well, it is just a good time of year to check your smoke detector batteries, make sure they’re working properly. We would recommend you change your batteries at least once a year in your home smoke detector, or if you have the extended life lithium style at least make sure you’re testing it to make sure that it is working properly,” Lanna said.

Although smoke alarms are a common appliance you don’t regularly think of, ensuring they continue to function properly is extremely important.
