Cool-Down Won’t Last Long As Warm Weather and Rain Come Next Week

It’s been a fairly chilly Sunday across Southern West Virginia. Some snow flurries are possible in the higher terrain areas through Monday morning, but as we head into Wednesday we will start to warm up and have a chance for rain showers. It’s not just Wednesday though, as our best chance of rain looks to come through next weekend from Saturday night into Sunday. The timing is still variable, but at the moment it looks like most of Saturday will be rain-free for us, with the rain coming through after 6PM. Quite a bit of rain could fall in areas where the heaviest rain from Wednesday overlaps with the rain on Saturday/Sunday, which looks to be in our northern counties. The way that the heaviest rain looks to set up with our current drought situation, it doesn’t line up perfectly. Our heaviest rainfall at the moment looks to fall where we have the less drought conditions. The least of our rainfall looks to fall in the Greenbrier Valley and down into Tazewell County, where we happen to have the worst drought conditions. That being said, any rainfall anywhere in our area helps tremendously!
Looking at the full 7 day forecast, we remain mostly sunny for several days, but the potential of rain does exist for Wednesday and next weekend. The potential for snow flurries should NOT lead to accumulation more than a half an inch.
