We are seeing plenty of clouds around the area this afternoon. That’s helped to keep the temperatures down a bit – Bluefield was sitting at 66 degrees at 6 p.m.!

Despite the clouds, there aren’t very many showers around. Still, we could see a sprinkle or two later this evening and into Wednesday morning. Still, any showers that do pop up will be short lived and shouldn’t produce much in the way of rain totals.

The pattern that we saw today continues again tomorrow as high pressure continues to sit to our northeast and bring down some cool air, as well as keeping us stuck in the clouds. Warm weather lovers will have to head west to see what they like, even areas to our south are in the 60s and 70s. Speaking of to the south, that’s where the showers will be again tomorrow, so travel along I-77 or I-81 will be slower than usual.

Thursday is a big day all around the state, but especially in Lewisburg as the 100th Annual West Virginia State Fair begins. The weather on opening day will feature more small chances for showers and storms, but that’s also when the warmup begins. Highs will be in the middle to upper 70s and will only go up from there, eventually winding up in the lower to middle 80s. Thursday’s trends for both rain chances and mild temperatures continue through the rest of the forecast period.

The only possible wrinkles to the forecast are in the form of a possible tropical system that could form off the Carolina coast over the next few days. The system could send some moisture in our direction. For now, the National Hurricane Center gives it a 40% chance for development over the next seven days as it moves west and first, then turns more northerly later on.
