Morgantown, WV (WOAY) – The WVU Board of Governors has approved funding for a new practice field for the West Virginia University Marching Band.
According to a media release on the WVU webpage, the first phase of construction for the $1.6 million-dollar facility is scheduled to begin to begin March 1, 2025, and should be complete in July for the start of fall band camp.
The Pride Practice Field and Facility will be an artificial turf field to be called Don Wilcox Field. The first phase of the donor-driven project will be at the Med Fields located on the Health Sciences Campus. The artificial turf football field will be called Don Wilcox Field and relocate the band tower. The site already features lighting for evening practices. The field will be used for intramural sports when not in use by the “Pride of West Virginia.”
Later phases envision the construction of a new storage building and a covered pavilion.
