ATHENS, WV (WOAY) – Concord University will honor the Spring 2020 graduating class during a virtual commencement on Saturday, May 9, 2020. This format is being utilized due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The upcoming event will mark the 145th Spring Commencement for Concord, and will feature a morning ceremony at 10 a.m. and an afternoon ceremony at 2 p.m. The ceremonies will be premiered at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on May 9 on the CU YouTube Channel, Facebook and the link that will be provided on Concord’s webpage (www.concord.edu).
The 10 a.m. ceremony will recognize candidates for graduation from the College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences which includes the Department of Fine Arts, Department of Humanities, and Department of Social Sciences as well as candidates from the College of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Health which includes the Master of Arts in Health Promotion, Department of Biology, Department of Physical Sciences, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, and Department of Health Sciences. Also being honored in the morning ceremony are candidates in Interdisciplinary Studies and those receiving the Regents Bachelor of Arts degree.
The 2 p.m. ceremony will recognize candidates for graduation from the College of Professional Studies which includes the Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Education and Master of Social Work and candidates from the Department of Business and Recreation and Tourism Management, Department of Communication Arts and Media, Department of Education, and Department of Social Work and Sociology.
The Spring 2020 class has three valedictorians:Â Kandace Eileene Barnette of Princeton, W.Va;Â Tanner Bret Cantley of Glen Daniel, W.Va.; and Samantha Ann Franks of Lewisburg, W.Va.
Barnette will receive a Bachelor of Science in Education degree Summa Cum Laude. Her field of study is Elementary K-6. Cantley will receive a Bachelor of Science degree, Summa Cum Laude. His major is Biology (Molecular). Franks will receive a Bachelor of Science degree Summa Cum Laude. Her major is Biology (Molecular) and her minor is Neuroscience.
