WOAY – Concord baseball is headed to next week’s Mountain East Tournament in Beckley after splitting a doubleheader Sunday with UVa-Wise.
The Highland Cavaliers won the first game of the doubleheader 6-2, meaning the winner of the second game would clinch a tournament berth. Wise took a 6-5 lead to the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Mountain Lions responded to send the game to extra innings. Concord again rallied in the bottom of the eighth, with Adam Linkous recording the game-winning RBI.
As the S2 seed (having finished second in the South Division), Concord will play West Liberty at 7 PM Thursday at Epling Stadium in Beckley. Additional Thursday games include Shepherd vs. West Virginia State (noon), and Charleston vs. Notre Dame College (3:30 PM).
