Bluefield, WV (WOAY) – Bluefield’s Beaver-Graham Week fills Thursday with two events, one introducing this year’s football team and another honoring the players and coaches who came before.
Meet the Beavers is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at Bluefield High School. Rob Brown, marketing coordinator for Bluefield Parks and Recreation, described the evening as the night the community rallies behind the team.
“Meet the Beavers. That’s like a pep rally. That’s where you get to really meet who is representing Bluefield this year,” Brown said. “You’re going to be rooting for the Bluefield team throughout the whole season. So you want to make sure you know them.”
Later that night, Legends of the Rivalry takes place at 7 p.m. at the Historic Granada Theater. Former athletes and coaches will share stories, memories, and behind-the-scenes moments from the rivalry’s history. Brown said the city wanted to recognize the athletes who came before.
“A lot of people played at Bluefield High School and they have a rich history, winning state championships, being a winning program. So now we want to celebrate them as well. So we’re going to bring the legends out,” Brown said.
Both Thursday events lead into Friday’s Battle of the Bluefields at Mitchell Stadium.
