Cold weather tonight, colder weather ahead

It is a windy evening around the area, as many locations are seeing gusts near 30 mph this evening.

Temperatures started in the mid-50s this afternoon, but now that the cold front has passed through, temperatures have fallen into the 40s and are on the way into the mid-20s.

With the wind speeds and gusts staying elevated over the next couple of days, it will feel even colder.

As we head out tomorrow to work off the big holiday meal, we’ll have to have coats and gloves on, as temperatures will only top out in the mid-30s. On the positive side, there will be plenty of sunshine. Tomorrow night will be even colder than tonight, and lows will be in the upper teens and lower 20s. We’re expecting Friday to be the coldest day that we’ve seen so far this season. On the 10th, highs only reached the freezing mark, and we’ll be even colder than that; our forecast high is 29 degrees on average. Friday night will be close to the coldest night of the ongoing season, as we drop into the middle to upper teens, a few degrees colder than it will be on Thursday night/Friday morning. We should be dry for the most part, although a few snow showers are possible, especially in the higher elevations.

The weekend will feature more cool weather and a return of rain and snow showers as another system comes into the area. Saturday is the better of the two weekend days, with plenty of sunshine like we’ll see on Friday, but cold temperatures in the afternoon. The first of two systems that will impact our weather comes into the area from the west. Most of the precipitation with this first system will be rain, rather than snow, but there will be some snow as well.

Any accumulations will be very light outside of the higher elevations. In fact, this first system will be drier than the second of the two systems as it has less moisture to work with. The second system arrives on Tuesday.

Overall, we’ll see a total of 2-4″ in the highest elevations, with less than that elsewhere.
