Clouds now, showers later

It is a partly to mostly cloudy afternoon around the region, with temperatures in the lower to middle 70s in most areas.

The chance for showers returns to the forecast later tonight as the weather becomes more active. It’s not a huge chance for rain, but once the rain chances come back, they’ll be with us for the rest of the forecast.

Lows will be seasonably cool again, with most areas a couple of degrees either side of the 60-degree mark.

Tomorrow, a disturbance will come into the region and combine with some moisture from the Gulf to produce some showers. It will still be cool, but a shade warmer than today. The warmup begins later in the forecast as the warm air from the south and southwest makes its way into the area. Highs won’t be what they were through most of July but will be in the lower 80s in most areas, and middle to upper 80s in the southwestern areas.

The big question in the forecast involves some possible moisture coming from the Carolina coast, as a possible tropical disturbance could send some moisture in our direction. For now, the National Hurricane Center gives it a 30% chance for development over the next seven days as it drifts west-northwestward.
